Murray Reiss lives on Salt Spring Island, BC, with his wife Karen, a ceramic sculptor. His poetry and prose have been published in literary magazines and anthologies in Canada and the United States, including Rocksalt: An Anthology of Contemporary BC Poetry and Poems from Planet Earth , and shortlisted for a number of prizes and awards. His first full-length collection, The Survival Rate of Butterflies in the Wild, won the League of Canadian Poets' Gerald Lampert Award for the best first book of poetry published in Canada in 2013. He also performs spoken word poetry as part of the Only Planet Cabaret.
